Suicide student had planned attack - explosive devices in his dorm room at UCF

University of Central Florida police block off a street near the Tower 1 dorm, tall building center, after explosive devices were found by authorities investigating the apparent suicide of a college student in the dorm, Monday, March 18, 2013, in Orlando, Fla. Hundreds of students were evacuated, though the school said there was no immediate threat.

Spokesman Grant Heston says that materials found in the dorm room made it appear that a wider attack was planned.

Police say he pulled a gun on another student, who then called police.

Heston says the university was in the process of removing the 30-year-old student from the dorm before Monday. Campus Police Chief Richard Beary say four makeshift explosive devices were found in a back pack. Beary says he believes that the dead student pulled a fire alarm in the dorm to get other students out in the open for an attack.

The student was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound with guns and the explosives.
