"Gangnam Style" lawsuit, YG Entertainment responds

Today, March 14, 2013, YG Entertainment has revealed that a composer filed a suit claiming that Psy‘s mega-hit “Gangnam Style” was taken from his song.

Apparently, last year in October, a composer named ‘Lee’ filed a plagiarism suit against the song.

YG Entertainment stated, “Last year in October, a composer filed a plagiarism suit against “Gangnam Style”, but if you listen, anyone can tell that it’s not plagiarism.

Since the composer is trying to make money using the song’s popularity, we believe the best action is no action.”

They added, “We already knew about the suit. It’s the first time that legal action has been taken, but there were other plagiarism accusations on the song after it became popular.

We checked, and none of them were related to plagiarism. We just felt that people were trying to use Psy’s popularity, so we didn’t feel the need to even respond.”

Composer ‘Lee’ is asking for compensation of around 100 million won (approximately $90,000 USD).
