Sometimes, a "settlement" doesn't mean a settlement.
Julie Taymor's Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark was supposed to be an epic -- the most expensive Broadway musical ever with audacious stunts and music from U2's Bono and The Edge.
The production now continues without her involvement, but the lawsuit survives and has become a thing to behold in its own right.
Taymor alleges that her contributions continue to be used in the musical and that she deserves compensation for this. The lawsuit was "settled" in August, but the parties had trouble reaching a final agreement. Then Taymor's attorney told the judge everyone was "within days" of a final settlement. And yet, the parties have yet been able to come to a final final agreement.
The judge reportedly is frustrated. On Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Katherine Forrest decided enough is enough and, after pointing to sealed correspondence between the parties.
