Propofol Investigation for Korean Singer Choi Hwee Sung better known as "Wheesung"

Choi Hwee-Sung (born February 5, 1982), better known by his first name Wheesung, is a South Korean R&B singer. He initially attended the Sun Moon University, under the journalism major but dropped out.

Korean R&B singer Wheesung is being investigated by the Ministry of National Defense Prosecutor’s Office for his habitual use of propofol — known as “milk shot” in Korea. An official from the Prosecutors’ Office said that “Wheesung was called in twice recently to be questioned on his use of propofol.”

Wheesung has been serving in the army since late 2011, but he managed to leave for breaks dozens of time to visit dermatologist and psychiatrist offices, to get illegally injected with propofol. To this, Wheesung’s spokesman said that although it’s true that Wheesung had been injected with propofol, it was for treatment purposes.

With Wheesung, his commanding officer will also be investigated to see if there’s been any shady deals made that allowed Wheesung to leave so many times.

Wheesung has collaborated with many artists. In late 2008, Wheesung has collaborated once again with Lee Hyori who featured as his girlfriend in his music video of "별이 지다.." (Fading Star) in the "With All My Heart and Soul" album. In 2009, Wheesung seeks help from producer Lee Hyun-do, they will collaborate to produce the new album which the release date has been set in August 2009.

In January 2013, she was investigated for illegal use of the narcotic propofol; Jang denied the allegations, claiming she needed the drug as a pain reliever.

I Miss You actress Jang Mi In Ae has denied allegations that she’s been using illegal drugs. This morning, The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office issued a statement implicating the actress had been using the drug propofol. Sound familiar?

That’s the drug Michael Jackson was on at his time of death. It’s a narcotic used to induce sleep or loss of consciousness and can only be prescribed under a doctor’s care.

Her agency C-JeS Entertainment was quick to issue a statement explaining, “Jang Mi In Ae has been going to clinics since 2002 to receive procedures, and used the drug under doctors’ orders. She had no idea what propofol was until she was called by the prosecutors.

It’s not true that she and other celebrities obtained the drug illegally in the past.” Jang, herself, has denied the allegations.

Famed Korean Actress Park Si Yeon Charged for Illegal Use of Propofol

Park Si Yeon is under investigation for the illegal use of the drug propofol. The Central District Prosecutor’s Office in Seoul called the actress in to testify about her usage of the drug. Clinics in Gangnam were found to be illegally distributing the narcotic mostly used in anesthetics, and the prosecutor’s charge states that the actress purposely visited the particular clinics to get the drug prescribed. Park Si Yeon’s agency responded by saying, “When Park Si Yeon was filming for the movies Marine Boy and Dachimawa Lee in 2008, she sustained an injury to her back. She tried to endure the pain with medicine, but after her doctor suggested surgery and the pain was unbearable, Park Si Yeon underwent surgery quietly because she didn’t want her image to be damaged. She even quit being a fixed member in the SBS show Family Outing. They added that they weren’t aware that propofol was used in her treatments. The agency also said that Park Si Yeon will testify and that the accusations that the drugs were used for recreational purposes are false accusations.

Other actresses, such as Lee Seung Yeon and Hyun Young, have also been called in to testify before. It turned out that Lee Seung Yeon, Hyun Young and Park Si Yeon did receive injections of propofol at hospitals, and they have all asserted that the propofol was used to aid skin care procedures.

ABOUT... Park Si-Yeon is a popular South Korean actress and model. She was born on March 29, 1979 in Busan, South Korea. In 2000, Park Si-Yeon competed in the regional Miss Seoul beauty pageant and placed third. She then competed in the national Miss Korea beauty pageant and won a secondary prize.

She first acted in the 2004 CCTV drama "Feng Qiu Huang" and then the 2005 CCTV drama "Han Xue Bao Ma". In 2005, Park Si-Yeon made her acting debut in her native country of South Korea with the SBS drama "My Girl." In 2006, Park Si-Yeon made her movie acting debut in the quirky comedy-musical-horror movie "The Fox Family".

Park Si-Yeon first became known to the Korean public not through her acting roles, but as the girlfriend of popular singer & actor Moon Jeong-Hyeok (also known as Eric from the K-pop band "Shinhwa"). The couple first met in 2004 and dated until 2007. Her relationship with Moon Jeong-Hyeok overshadowed her acting career during her early years, with the public commonly identifying her as "Eric's girlfriend". In an interview with Herald Media of Korea, Park Si-Yeon stated it took about 10 different roles before the tag of "Eric's girlfriend" vanished from the public's perception of her. She also stated that a positive of the "Eric's girlfriend" tag was that she loved him.

In 2010, Park Si-Yeon played the lead female role in the SBS drama "Coffee House". Park Si-Yeon's performance as Seo Eun-Young in "Coffee House" was an unfortunate blemish on her career, not for her portrayal, but due to a script that lacked any clear direction and frustrated audiences. The first 12 episodes of "Coffee House" focused more on the character Kang Seung-Yeon (Ham Eun-Jung), making it appear that the character Seo Eun-Young was secondary.

Jang Mi In Ae and Lee Seung Yeon Officially Deny the Drug Propofol Suspicions

Lee Seung Yeon                            Jang Mi In Ae

Jang Mi In Ae and Lee Seung Yeon, who have been brought under police investigation regarding their alleged abuse of propofol, have denied the claims, saying they used the drug only for medical purposes.

"Lee Seung Yeon suffered a fracture in her spine in 2003 during filming, and received injections of propofol under the supervision of a doctor while treating her injury."

"The fracture lingered as a chronic disease, and she is still being treated by the doctor she first met at the time of her injury," it said. "The injury puts her under unspeakable pain whenever she has tight schedules. She never, however, received illegal doses of propofol for uses other than treatment."

It also said, "Because of the nature of her TV program, she can′t help but receive skin care, including massages from a dermatologist. She did receive injections of propofol under the supervision of a doctor while receiving skin care. This is a medical procedure, however, not an illegal act."

It finished, "We want to emphasize that she never received illegal injections of propofol for aims other than legal treatment for her spine fracture and for skin care."

Jang Mi In Ae′s agency also strongly denied the actress ever received illegal doses of the drug.

Her agency C-JeS Entertainment said, "Propofol is an intravenous anesthetic, and is used in surgeries that require general anesthesia. Jang Mi In Ae visited the hospital many times to receive procedures on her skin and body from 2006 to August 2012, and before each procedure she was put under anesthesia based on the prescriptions of a doctor."

It added that Jang Mi In Ae hadn′t even understood what the word ′propofol′ meant when she was contacted by prosecutors on the case.

It also said, "It is not true that ′Jang Mi In Ae and three or four other celebrities have been receiving illegal injections of propofol′, nor that ′[prosecution] has secured evidence and testimony that the celebrities have used the drug illegally,′" emphasizing that investigations are still underway and that no suspicions have been confirmed yet.

During questioning, Jang Mi In Ae also denied the charges, saying, "It is true that I visited the hospital to receive procedures on my skin, but they took place under anesthesia administered with the prescription of a doctor."

Lee Seung Yeon will be summoned for a police investigation within the week.
