The collision occurred about 8 p.m. Friday, ONTARIO, California. Police say 47-year-old Rick Dell was driving a white minvan that blew through the checkpoint, ran a red light and struck a SUV.
Dell was arrested and booked for investigation of DUI and felony hit and run.
Witnesses say the vehicle was traveling at nearly 100 mph. Authorities say Dell jumped out of the vehicle after the crash and ran away. He was later captured.
The SUV driver was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Two passengers in the minivan also were hospitalized with minor injuries.
