Dr James William Eisenberg Arrested by DEA for Pills without Script & Pot

After his indictment Friday, West Hollywood physician James William Eisenberg, 72, surrendered to federal law enforcement authorities this morning on charges that he prescribed powerful pain medications without prescription.

Dr. James William Eisenberg, 72, surrendered to federal law enforcement authorities this morning on charges that he prescribed powerful pain medications without prescription.

Dr. Eisenberg’s troubles with the law began on earnest when Department of Justice’s Office of Diversion Control’s Administrative Law Judge Timothy D. Wing stripped him of his registration to prescribe pain medications in mid-2012.

After the revocation, he is accused of writing more than 1,200 prescriptions for powerful painkillers such as Oxycontin and Xanax.

The West Hollywood physician, who working out of several medical offices in West Hollywood, including a Santa Monica Boulevard storefront called Pacific Support Services, also issued medical marijuana recommendations, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

That office sits in the same building as Zen Healing, which was raided in mid-April and whose owner/operator was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

He is charged with seven counts, including distribution of hydrocodone, which is the generic drug found in products such as Vicodin and Norco. Prosecutors say he handed out prescriptions in exchange for $150 cash payments.

In his 2012 hearing, Judge Timothy D. Wing called Dr. Eisenberg a “drug dealer.” On Feb. 19, DEA investigators executed a federal search warrant on one of Eisenberg’s West Hollywood offices.

He is charged with four counts of using a revoked DEA registration number and three counts of distribution of hydrocodone.

If convicted of the seven counts in the indictment, Eisenberg faces a maximum sentence of 46 years in federal prison.

California Bans of Pot Stores

The California Supreme Court  will decide the fate of about 200 city bans on medical marijuana dispensaries Monday, resolving years of conflicting holdings by lower courts.

During a hearing in February, several justices indicated they favored upholding city bans. The justices' comments suggested the court would rule that local governments have wide policing powers that state medical marijuana laws have not usurped.

If the court rules in favor of the bans, many more communities are expected to zone dispensaries out of existence.

Supporters of medical cannabis have lamented that patients would be forced to drive hundreds of miles to obtain marijuana legally or be forced to buy illegally.

Californians passed Proposition 215 in 1996, removing state sanctions for patients who use cannabis under a doctor's recommendation.  But the state Legislature failed to adopt regulations for the law, and some cities and counties were inundated with dispensaries before they even began to consider local rules.

Rather than risk lawsuits by regulating, many cities simply adopted zoning ordinances that effectively banned dispensaries. The case before the court involves such a ban by the city of Riverside.

Justin Bieber' tour bus was raided by Swedish Police

A rep for the Stockholm PD, who told us .... Around 7:10 PM on Wednesday night, an officer smelled weed coming from Justin's bus, which was parked in front of the Grand Hotel.

Cops say ... when the bus left the hotel and headed toward the Globe Arena, the officer contacted a special narcotics unit, which issued a warrant to search Bieber's bus.

We're told cops searched the bus in the parking garage of the Globe Arena -- no one was on the bus at the time.

Cops say they found a small amount of narcotics (they won't say which drug, but local papers say it's weed) -- along with a taser.

We're told cops have not identified a suspect yet ... and the bus has not been impounded.

Bieber had been seen with his pal Lil Za in the hours before the weed incident ... and FYI, Za is the guy who was seen smoking pot with Bieber at an L.A. home earlier this year.

Cops tell us NO ONE WILL BE CHARGED because they have no idea who was in possession of the drug since the bus was empty.   They found the narcotic on the floor of the bus so they have no clue who brought it on.
