Off Duty LADP Officer Arrested for DUI After Crashing into McDonald's Sign

Newsflash from your Hollywood Attorney:

An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was arrested early Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed his car into a McDonald's drive-through in Diamond Bar, officials said.

Jonathan Chel, 29, of Fullerton, was exiting the eastbound 60 Freeway at Golden Springs Drive about 1:15 a.m. when his Mazda 3 veered off the exit ramp, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The vehicle crossed over to an on-ramp before it "launched" across a 50-foot gulf, coming to rest in the drive-through at Golden Springs and Brea Boulevard, the CHP said.

Los Angeles County firefighters pulled Chel from the vehicle, and he was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center for injuries the CHP described as moderate. A CHP officer responded to the hospital and arrested Chel on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, the agency said.

Los Angeles police Officer Luis Garcia confirmed Chel was off duty at the time, but referred other questions about the incident to the CHP, which is handling the investigation.

No other vehicles were involved, the CHP said. Chel was the lone occupant of his car.

#Bieber Pleads Not Guilty in Miami #DUI Arrest and on Assault Charge in Toronto Plus Possible Deportation

Newsflash from your Hollywood Attorney:

In Miami Justin pleaded Not Guilty to DUI, Drag Racing between a Lamborghini and a Ferrari and acknowledged smoking marijuana plus taking an unknown prescription medication.

Bieber was given four alcohol breath tests, with the first two not usable because of insufficient volume of breath.

The third test, administered at 5:37 a.m., showed an alcohol reading of .014 and a fourth, at 5:40 a.m., came up at .011. Both are under the .02 limit in Florida for a driver under the legal drinking age of 21. The limit for drivers above that age is .08.

Police also obtained a urine sample from Bieber but the results of tests have not been released. If it shows the presence of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, or certain prescription drugs, legal experts say could still be grounds for a DUI.

Another police document described Bieber as "excited, talkative, profanity, cooperative, insulting, and cocky" and noted that he had a pronounced odor of alcohol on his breath, bloodshot eyes and a flushed face. During DUI field tests, officers noted that Bieber could not walk heel-to-toe as instructed, had trouble turning without losing his balance and could not smoothly follow a moving object with his eyes.

Regarding the marijuana, one officer said he noticed a strong smell of the drug while Bieber was sitting in the back of a police car. The officer asked Bieber about it.

"Yeah, we were smoking all night at the studio," the report quotes Bieber as replying.

As for the prescription drugs, Bieber told police he didn't know what they were but they were for treatment of anxiety.

"Well, my mom takes care of all that stuff for me," he said, according to the report.

The alcohol breath tests for Sharieff, meanwhile, came up .00 and he was also gave a urine sample, according to police.

 Toronto, Canada

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has surrendered to Toronto police to face charges he assaulted a limousine driver in December.

Bieber, 19, was greeted at the station by a frenzy of television crews, news photographers - and screaming teenage fans.

He was booked less than a week after he was arrested in Florida and accused of drink-driving and other charges.

His management team have not responded to requests for comment.

On the evening of the alleged incident in Toronto, the Ontario-born pop star attended a Maple Leafs hockey game, Canadian broadcaster CBC reported.

Police officials say Mr Bieber will appear in court at a later date.

Also on Wednesday, a petition requesting Mr Bieber's expulsion from the US that was filed on a White House website by a member of the public gained 100,000 signatures.

The US president has no power to order an individual's deportation, and it is unclear whether the White House would respond to the petition.

In the early morning hours on Thursday, Mr Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach after a police officer pulled him over on suspicion he was racing a hired yellow Lamborghini on a public street.

Police estimated he and a member of his entourage who was also arrested were driving at 55mph (88.5km/h) in a 30mph zone flanked by apartment buildings, a school, a youth centre and a golf course.

Suspecting he was intoxicated, the officer arrested him. Mr Bieber was also charged with resisting arrest and driving on an expired licence.

After appearing in front of a Florida judge last week via teleconference, while wearing orange jail clothing and with his hands clasped in front of him, Mr Bieber posted bail of $2,500 (£1,500).

White House weighs petition to deport Justin Bieber

"Every petition that crosses the threshold will be reviewed by the appropriate staff and receive a response," assistant White House spokesman Matt Lehrich said.

But State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki cautioned that the petition program "doesn't always determine a step will be taken, it's more of another opportunity for the voices of the American people to be heard."

TSA Screener Arrested Threats at Los Angeles Airport

Newsflash from your Hollywood Attorney:

A former Transportation Security Administration screener has been arrested for making threats that led to the clearing of terminals at Los Angeles International Airport, the FBI said on Wednesday.

The suspect, Nna Alpha Onuoha, 29, of Inglewood, California, was arrested late on Tuesday by members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force in Los Angeles, the FBI said in a statement.

Onuoha been employed by the TSA since 2006 but resigned on Tuesday after being suspended. After he resigned, Onuoha allegedly left a package at TSA's Los Angeles International headquarters, addressed to a TSA employee, the statement said.

A police bomb squad that checked the package found an eight-page letter, "in which Onuoha expressed his thoughts about the incident that led to his suspension and disdain for the United States, among other opinions," the FBI statement said.

Later on Tuesday, a man believed to be Onuoha twice called the TSA and told an employee to begin evacuating specific terminals at the airport, it said.

Police cleared the terminals and no threat was found.

Officers found Onuoha's apartment empty, except for a note taped inside a closet with "an unspecified threat," citing Wednesday's anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks.

An FBI spokeswoman said a church and a van near the site of Onuoha's arrest in Riverside, California, were being searched.

Man Attempted Burglary Arrested at Kid Rock's Detroit, Michigan Home

Newsflash from your Hollywood Attorney:

A suspect has been arrested by police investigating an attempted burglary at Kid Rock's Detroit, Michigan home. Cops launched a probe after security cameras showed a man on crutches driving a van into a gate at the property before trying to break in to the home on Wednesday (31Jul13).

A male was arrested on Saturday (03Aug13) after a tip-off to officials and is currently in custody awaiting arraignment. Following the attempted break-in, the All Summer Long hitmaker warned he will take tough action against any would-be burglars, writing in a post on his website, "I am an avid hunter and marksman and I will not hesitate to shoot anyone who has myself or family in fear for our lives." He also offered a $5,000 (£3,330) reward to help catch the would-be thief.

More Ridiculous Child Arrests some for Burping, Dropping a Cake to Throwing a Paper Airplane

Newsflash from your Hollywood Attorney:

Being a Kid can get you into trouble, big trouble these days. Can you imagine being arrested every time you acted out when you were younger?    You won’t believe these 10 reasons children were arrested in the USA.

Burping in Class
Most of the time, teaching manners is left up to parents. However, a school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, decided to take matters into their own hands when they arrested a 13-year-old student for burping in class. How any police officer can justify an arrest for a normal bodily function is beyond us.

Spraying Perfume
Who knew it would ever be a crime to want to smell good? A 12-year-old girl, Sarah Bustamantes, was arrested for simply spraying perfume on herself at a public school in Texas.

Doodling on a Desk
Most of us can say we are guilty of doodling while we were in class at some point or another, but imagine getting arrested for it. This was the case for a 12-year-old girl in Forest Hills, New York, in 2010. She was arrested at school for writing “I love my friends Abby and Faith” on her desk. If you are going to punish for doodling, is it really that hard to just send a child to the principal’s office or make them clean up the mess?

An Innocent Kiss
Can you remember your first crush and those butterflies you got every time they would come near you? What if the police were called after you finally worked up the courage to make a move on them? This is exactly what happened at one elementary school in Florida after a little girl decided to give her crush an innocent kiss.

Plastic Butter Knife
An 11-year-old student was put in jail and charged with a third-degree felony in Florida after bringing a plastic knife to school.

Pouring Milk After a Break-Up
Break-ups don’t have the tendency to end very well for anyone. One couple at a high school in Houston were arrested and sent to court after pouring milk on each other when they were in an argument. Let’s just say getting arrested and breaking up in the same day is no day at the park.

Throwing Paper Airplanes
Students often get distracted while in class by passing notes or drawing. Of course, it isn’t out of the ordinary for a teacher to scold the child. But one student in Texas was arrested in 2012 after throwing paper airplanes in his classroom.

Temper Tantrums
Parents and teachers will probably agree that it is difficult to deal with kids and their temper tantrums, but how far do you think they should go to get the child to calm down? An elementary school in Florida took extreme measures by handcuffing and sending a 6-year-old girl to a mental facility after the child lost control.

Spilling Crumbs
Getting every little crumb after a spill can be tough, but one young girl would suffer from not cleaning up all of her mess. A security guard in California arrested and broke the 16-year-old’s arm after some crumbs from the cake she dropped was left on the floor. If that isn’t overreacting, then what is?

Comic "Jeff Garlin" Arrested is now in Lawsuit Over Parking Lot Incident

Newsflash from your Hollywood Attorney:

It could have been a scene plucked directly out of an episode of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, but this time, it was all too real. Curb star Jeff Garlin is now being sued by the woman whose car he allegedly vandalized in a dispute over a parking spot, leading to his arrest last Saturday and a night spent in jail. (The L.A. city attorney has since dropped the charges.)

Read Full Complaint here... http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sites/default/files/custom/Documents/ESQ/Garlin_bc515897.pdf

New allegations about the incident have emerged in the civil lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. According to the complaint, the plaintiff -- described as a "small woman, 5' 2" in height" -- was in her car with a friend in the parking lot of a Studio City CVS pharmacy. Gridlock ensued, and the woman allegedly "made a face" at Garlin after he refused to move his car so she could park.
Once she did find a spot, the complaint states, Garlin "got out of his car, followed her from behind and slammed his fist against the driver's side window so hard that it broke the glass." Garlin then allegedly approached the windshield and "stuck his face in front of her in a threatening way, gave her the 'finger' and screamed crazily at her." He then "began yelling to her friend to call the police."

At that point, the plaintiff, who says she did not recognize the comedian, allegedly drove away from the scene, but her companion got out, returned to Garlin's car and took a photo of his license plate. The companion called the police, who arrived at the scene and arrested Garlin.
The woman is seeking unspecified damages "in an amount subject to proof at trial." The causes of action are assault, intentional destruction of personal property and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Paula Deen's Extortionist Arrested

A New York man is charged with threatening to reveal "true and damning" statements about Deen if he didn't get $250,000.

Thomas Paculis, 62, is said to have made contact with Deen's lawyer in June with threats.

Greg Hodges, attorney for Deen, then contacted the FBI, who encouraged further dialogue.

Eventually, the two are said to have gotten on the phone, and Paculis demanded $250,000. Hodges negotiated it down to $200,000.

Paculis is later said to have contacted Jackson's lawyer, Matthew Billips, and told him by e-mail, "Now the burning question is...do you want in...I still have the chance to bring this together, but time is slowly running out...I have them hooked, but reeling this sucker in is gonna be hard without help...give me a call..."

Paculis was arrested in Newfield, N.Y., where he lives. The defendant formerly resided in the Savannah and Augusta, Ga., areas.

According to reports, Deen told the FBI she didn't know him.

Arron Carter Beaten up After Performing on the New Kids on the Block Turf

Aaron Carter is sporting a shiner he claims he got from 4 grown men who were pissed he's performing on "New Kids on the Block" turf ... aka Boston.

Aaron, who posted some gnarly selfies after the fight, tells TMZ he was leaving dinner with a friend last night in beantown, when a huge guy approached him in the parking lot and yelled: "I heard you’re doing a show here tomorrow. This is the town of the New Kids."

Aaron claims three other guys then jumped out of a gold Chevy Malibu ... and started the beat down, which came complete with a shot to his face.

The singer claims he landed a few punches before the NKOTB-lovers took off -- "I think my knuckles might be broken, but that's what they get. People think I'm a pretty little white boy but no way. I think I won. I'm still standing."

X-Ray Gun, Two Men Arrested For Trying To Build One

A  curious case of Glendon Scott Crawford, a man with Ku Klux Klan connections who wanted to build an X-ray weapon to "help Israel kill its enemies while they slept." It's an act so unsubtle and cartoonishly evil that Hollywood execs would probably laugh the premise out of the room.

Nikola Tesla sitting in his laboratory in Colorado Springs in December 1899 Dickenson V. Alley via Wikimedia Commons

Crawford was arrested Tuesday, after a sting operation by FBI agents in which they provided Crawford and his co-conspirator, engineer Eric J. Feight, with an nonfunctioning X-ray machine. This begs the question: Could an actual weapon be made from a working X-ray machine?

X-rays are best known for taking pictures of the insides of people. While a regular dose in a medical setting is harmless, increased exposure to X-ray radiation can cause harm. In the grand scheme of radiation, it's a modest dosage.

Like ultraviolet radiation, the kind that comes from the sun, too much X-ray radiation can cause cancer. That can be a death sentence, but it hardly compares to the kind of death sentence that would come from, say, a regular gun. The typical chest X-ray is 1 rad, or the base unit of radiation.

An intense X-ray that gives off 5-20 rad can cause chromosomal damage, and at 20-100 rad X-rays cause temporary reduction of white blood cell counts, risking reproductive health and sterility. At 200 rad, the earliest forms of radiation sickness can take effect, and 800 or more rad absorbed in a short time is almost always fatal. Crawford planned to create a device capable of generating lethal dosages of X-ray very quickly, probably taking no more than a few hours. He described his plan as “Hiroshima on a light switch,” according to the complaint.

If X-rays can be this deadly, why don't militaries use them?

Before answering that, it's worth acknowledging that this is the weapon design of a crazy man, so probably not all that rooted in reality. While the agents in the sting operation disabled the X-ray generator Crawford intended to use, it's very likely that whatever he built wouldn't have worked anyway.

That said, the military is in fact trying to develop directed-energy weapons. While not strictly focusing on X-rays, directed radiation beams were the key behind an experimental military weapon, later adopted as a "pain ray" used by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to control prison riots. Using a much lighter dosage than Crawford and Feight's lethal intent, these weapons would heat up the skin of their target, forcing the person to jump back.

Men Arrested in Poaching of Rhino Horns

Judge Christina Snyder remarked that she had traveled to Africa and personally witnessed the effects of poaching, as she sentenced Vinh Chuong "Jimmy" Kha and Felix Kha to 42 months and 46 months in prison, respectively. The Khas, who prosecutors said “sat at the apex of the rhino horn smuggling pyramid within the United States,” pleaded guilty last year to charges including conspiracy, smuggling, wildlife trafficking, money laundering and tax evasion for their part in the trade.

Saying she wanted to send a message against the “extremely serious” crime of trafficking in rhinoceros horns, a federal judge on Wednesday sentenced a father and son to nearly four years in prison for selling hundreds of pounds of horns highly prized in Vietnam and China as a CANCER CURE.

“There are parts of Africa where rhinos are completely gone,” the judge said from the bench. “Lord knows if they’ll ever come back.”

They also noted that the pair indirectly paid a $150,000 bribe to a Vietnamese official who had stopped a shipment of the horns, which can net up to $25,000 a pound.

The men were also ordered to pay taxes owed as well as a fine of $10,000 each. The Khas were arrested as a result of Operation Crash, an 18-month investigation into the trafficking of rhino horns that led to arrests in a dozen states.

Federal wildlife agents seized more than $2 million in cash, gold bars and precious stones, along with rhino horns, hoofs and other body parts, while breaking up an international smuggling ring.

"Coronation Street" Star William Roache Arrested On Rape

LONDON — A longtime star of British soap opera "Coronation Street" has been charged with two counts of rape involving a 15-year-old girl about three decades ago, prosecutors and police said Wednesday.

William Roache, 81, was arrested at his home earlier Wednesday for the offenses, which allegedly took place in Haslingden, a town north of Manchester, between April and July of 1967.

He has played Ken Barlow on the series since its first episode in 1960, and some call him the world's longest-serving soap star.

The soap, set in a fictional working-class district in northwestern England, is among the most popular and longest-running programs on British television.

Roache will appear at Preston Magistrates' Court on May 14.

In March, Roache issued an apology after he appeared to suggest in an interview with New Zealand television that victims of child sex crimes had behaved badly in a previous life. He also said that the public should not be judgmental about people accused of child sex offenses.

He later apologized for causing offense and clarified that he never meant to say that sex abuse victims are responsible for the crimes they suffer.

The actor's arrest is not part of Operation Yewtree, the sex abuse investigation established after revelations about the late entertainer Jimmy Saville.

$240 Million Awarded to Disabled Iowa Workers

An Iowa jury on Wednesday awarded a total of $240 million to 32 mentally disabled Iowa turkey processing plant workers for what government lawyers described as years of around-the-clock abuse and discrimination by the Texas company that oversaw their care, work and lodging.

The federal jury in Davenport determined that Henry's Turkey Service, of Goldthwaite, Tex., violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by creating a hostile living and working environment and imposing discriminatory conditions of employment. The jury also found that the company acted with "malice or reckless indifference" to the men's civil rights.

Jurors awarded each of the men $7.5 million apiece after a weeklong trial that featured emotional testimony from social workers who described the physical and verbal abuse they suffered. That includes $5.5 million apiece in compensatory damages for their pain and suffering and $2 million apiece to punish the company for knowingly violating the law.

The company, which is now defunct, is not expected to be able to pay anywhere near the full amount of damages. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has suggested it will go after the defunct company's assets, including up to $4 million that was transferred to founder T.H. Johnson's widow after he died in 2008.

The employees lived at a rural Iowa bunkhouse under Henry's care while they worked at the West Liberty Foods turkey processing plant, which paid Henry's to supply them under a contract that dated to the 1970s. West Liberty Foods is not accused of any wrongdoing. Company officials said they banned a Henry's supervisor from the plant in 2007 after learning he had abused the men, but were otherwise unaware of problems.

The EEOC sued Henry's after state officials shuttered the bunkhouse in 2009 because of unsafe and unsanitary conditions there, including fire hazards, shoddy construction, a leaky roof, and a rodent infestation. State officials then found new caretakers for the men, many of whom were in their 50s and 60s and had medical problems that needed immediate attention.

"This was pervasive, 24/7, in every way," EEOC attorney Robert Canino said in his closing argument.

According to social workers who treated them after the home was shuttered, the men said they had been subjected to harsh discipline and abuse at home and work by their Henry's supervisors. They said they had been forced to work through illness and injuries, denied bathroom breaks, locked in their rooms, kicked in the groin and, in one case, handcuffed to a bed. Supervisors also subjected the men to random acts of cruelty, such making them eat hot peppers, "just for laughs," Canino said.

By 2008, Henry's was being paid more than $500,000 per year by West Liberty Foods, but was paying the men the same $65 per month that it always had, regardless of how many hours they worked. The company docked the men's wages and Social Security disability benefits, telling them it was to pay for the cost of their care and lodging.

A judge has already ordered Henry's to pay the men more than $1.3 million in back wages in the case. Henry's never applied for medical care or other services for the disabled that the men would have qualified for in Iowa.

2 Kidnapping Attempts in North Hollywood plus charged with 8 felony's, $4 Million Bond

Following his alleged crime spree, Jason Kies, 37, was booked on eight felony counts, including suspicion of trying to force at least two women into his car for sexual assault in separate incidents, but they managed to fight back and escape, police said.

"There's a lot of things that happened that went right for the victims," said Capt. Justin Eisenberg of the North Hollywood Community Police Station during a Tuesday press conference. "Each one of his victims refused to surrender."

The spree began in North Hollywood on Friday around 8 a.m., when Kies allegedly tried to strong-arm the first victim into his GMC SUV on Ben Avenue between Hesby Street and Addison Street, Eisenberg said.

She managed to fight him off for her escape, he said.

Kies reportedly headed to a Marshall's Department Store in Studio City at noon and allegedly got into a scuffle with a store security guard while trying to steal women's lingerie, Eisenberg said.

Witnesses were able to take down the suspect's license plate number as he fled the scene, the captain said.

Around 1 p.m., Kies proceeded to Tujunga Avenue and Sarah Street in Valley Village where he allegedly assaulted a female jogger and tried to force her into his car, Eisenberg said. She also succeeded in fending him off.

Throughout the afternoon, North Hollywood detectives were able to identify the suspect, though Lt. Alan Hamilton would not comment on how at this time.

Robbery homicide division detectives spotted Kies in La Crescenta and placed him on surveillance, but moved in for the arrest around 6 p.m., when he was spotted following a lone female jogger on a side street near the 210 Freeway, Hamilton said.

Kies was taken into custody without incident. He reportedly had a knife on him, but did not use it over the course of Friday's events, Hamilton said.

Hamilton said there may be at least one more potential kidnapping victim that escaped safely and urges her to come forward.

He said following Kies' arrest that detectives have learned the suspect may have a history of attempted kidnappings, including one of an elementary school-aged girl in the San Fernando Valley.

Kies is being held on $4 million bail.

Stolen "Breaking Bad" Script from car of Bryan Cranston

Afraid that guarded secrets could come to light before the series "Breaking Bad" returns this summer.

Star Bryan Cranston reported a theft March 1, alleging that someone broke his car window and snatched a shoulder bag containing an iPad and his Breaking Bad script, according to Albuquerque’s ABC affiliate, KOAT-TV. Court documents obtained by ABCNews.com reveal that one of Cranston’s employees, Taryn Feingold, was contacted by a confidential informant, who reportedly overheard a man at a local bar boasting about how he broke into a vehicle in the Sandia Mountain Range.

He then reportedly showed his company “some type of laptop or iPad,” according to the complaint, while “describing how he also had a script from the Breaking Bad series.”

On Saturday, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office arrested suspect Xavier McAfee for burglary, the complaint states.

Professional pickpockets Travel across the Globe to Steal!

Gang Arrested of professional pickpockets arrived in Ireland for St Patrick’s Day. Yes, they travel just to pickpocket you! They are everywhere!

The Irish Sun can reveal 30 foreign suspects were arrested in Dublin over last weekend.

They included a Romanian woman caught with NINE stolen €400 iPhones during Sunday’s festivities. Another Romanian woman was nabbed with a stolen iPhone on Saturday night — just one hour after arriving in the capital.

Two Eastern European men were caught with SIX stolen smartphones on Friday night.

And a Bulgarian man caught last week with NINE iPhones had a fake US driving licence.

Gardai believe 20 of the Romanians were part of an organized gang who traveled here from London. But some of the thieves were also from Algeria and south America.

Some 50 stolen phones were recovered during the weekend operation by officers from Operation Aughrim, which was launched by Det Insp Michael Cryan last summer.

None of the thefts were violent and just one violent robbery was recorded over the whole weekend.

In Dublin District Court yesterday, three Romanian nationals who pleaded guilty to theft were told to leave Ireland by midnight last night. They were also banned from Ireland for a year.

A source said: “Those caught were part of an organised network who came here for one purpose — to steal.”

Short -- real name Todd Anthony Shaw -- was pulled over in L.A. a couple hours ago for some traffic violation ... and when cops approached the vehicle, he appeared under the influence.

Now here's where it gets weird -- when police attempted to administer a breathalyzer test, law enforcement sources tell us Too Short took off  ... and tripped as he ran down the street.

Police got their man and placed him under arrest ... then tossed him into a police cruiser.

On the way back to the station, things got even crazier -- we're told Too Short tried to dump narcotics in the back of the cruiser.

Our sources say Too Short blew a .09 ... just over the .08 legal limit.

According to law enforcement sources, Too Short is currently being booked for DUI and felony narcotics possession.
