Traffic Stop Finds $1.6 Million Worth of Marijuana

A 48 year old woman driving with a medical distress during Christmas morning was stopped on i20 in Texas She told officers she had been using methamphetamines.

The SUV was a rental and after officers searched it, found about 180 pounds of marijuana, plus about 2 grams of methamphetamine. The woman has been hospitalized in serious condition.

NY State Assemblyman Steve Katz arrested for Marijuana

The 59 year old NY State Assemblynan has been charged with drug possession after a traffic stop. The New York Trooper noticed the smell of marijuana. Katz had in his possession a small bag of Marijuana.

"This should not overshadow the work I have done over the years for the public ... I am confident that once the facts are presented that this will quickly be put to rest."

It's unclear what those facts are, but the case is notable in part because Katz currently sits on the Assembly's Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee.

The Lower Hudson Valley lawmaker also ran unsuccessfully last year for state Senate against his former ally, Sen. Greg Ball, in a bare-knuckle campaign.

Among the revelations? Katz, a veterinarian, was once been arrested for putting a dead dog in a dumpster, and for allegedly harming a feisty chihuahua during an exam.
