Over 2,300 Arrested for DUI over the 18 day Campaign just in Los Angeles County, CA.

The total of 2,313 arrests surpassed that of last year. The 18-day Avoid the 100 Los Angeles County DUI Campaign resulted in 2,313 arrests of drivers suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, authorities said Tuesday.

There were 2,098 arrests made during the same period last year, said Sgt. Rich Pena of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The campaign of sobriety checkpoints, special saturation patrols and routine patrols began at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 16, and ran through midnight Monday Sept. 2nd, Pena said.

Two people caused deaths were arrested driving under the influence.

Funding for the program, conducted by 100 state and local agencies, came from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
