New Restaurant: Bel Air Bar & Grill - Susan Disney-Lord

Susan Disney Lord, daughter of Roy Disney, purchased the place in 2007, and recently razed the property to turn it into a LEED eco-certified meal mecca for the affluent local crowd.

As in the past, the old-school American cuisine (shrimp cocktail, wedge salad, roasted chicken breast) splits the difference between roadhouse and country club, yet it’s now been gently updated for 2012. Which is to say, the onion rings are fried in a balsamic tempura batter and the cream sauce served with the grilled salmon features lemongrass.

The Insider’s Dish: Disney Lord heads up the family’s philanthropic foundation, whose office is attached to the restaurant.

The Must-Order Item: Red velvet ding dongs for dessert.
